Title: the Perfect Emotion
Series: The Perfect Series (Book #2)
Author: Melissa Rolka

The story of Kate, Kyle and Reed continues in this second novel of The Perfect Series.

Kate (Katherine) Monroe is finally coming to heads with the decisions she’s made in the past to keep herself distracted at any cost. Learning to move on and forward with the conflicts in her life is harder than she expects though. With Kyle continuing to attempt reconciliation and Kate’s mom back at home, avoiding and running are no longer an option.
All along Kate’s mind and heart are consumed with Reed, but she fights to push her feelings and desires to the side. Despite the obvious pull and connection she has with Reed she finds it difficult to let him in… and trust in herself. However, Reed’s perseverance and patience never wavers and eventually he uses the one thing that had always brought them together… tennis.
As Reed and Kate begin to embark on a new relationship they face the past and the present head on. Along the way, new challenges and emotions arise testing the direction of their future together.
Can Kate forgive herself and trust Reed in order to latch onto the one emotion she needs most… love?
“Jesus, Katherine,” he mumbles as I kiss my way across his jaw and over to his ear. “What are you doing to me?”
“Kissing you,” I whisper in his ear and brush my lips against his ear lobe.
“Mmmmm hmmmm.” His hands move to my waist and guide me onto him. I’m straddling his lap and his fingers dig into my hips. I rush my hands into his hair and his head presses all the way against the couch, the leather giving in to my demands. Our tongues clash against each other exploring as if it’s our first kiss, yet knowingly anticipating our next ridge or groove. My heart races in ways I never knew possible. My hands run down to the hem of his button down shirt and to the top of his pants. I start to pull at his shirt to un-tuck it, but his hands come around and lock around my wrists restraining me from pulling anymore. I whine into his mouth.
“Why?” I mumble against the softness of his lips and smile.
“This is the first time I’m in your house and I just met your parents… maybe the second time,” he jokes and then nibbles on my bottom lip.
“Grrrrr,” I grumble in his mouth. “You are always being too good.” His eyes narrow at me and he let’s out a rough chuckle.
“Katherine, I think you know that’s not true and I’ll show you just how bad I am when we are back up at school.” His hands snake up to my shoulders wrapping around the back of my neck. Pulling me towards him and his lips find mine again. Softly he kisses me across my jaw to my ear. “Patience,” he whispers.
“I don’t want to be patient,” I pout as I push my body into him. He laughs into me and un-straddles me from his lap. We face each other and I smile shyly at him feeling a little funny by my boldness.
“Stop,” he says, and his hand latches onto my pinky finger gently rubbing it. “Don’t be embarrassed. I don’t like you having to be patient either,” he says, just before he plants a firm kiss to my forehead. I lean myself against him and rest my head on his chest. His arms wrap around me tightly making my insecurities fade. As I take in his familiar pine and masculine scent he shifts us back against the arm of the couch allowing me to snuggle myself even closer.
Well this was another great book by Melissa Rolka. I was left a wanting mess after The Perfect Distraction, so I couldn't wait to get my hands on this one. I was dying to have Reed back in my life and find out what happens between him and Katherine.  This book is again perfectly titled based on the story. After all the distractions are taken away from Katherine, all she has left are unsettled emotions that she struggles  desperately to get a grasp of. She now has to face all these emotions dead on, which include everything that happened with Kyle, finding a way to forgive her mom for abandoning her family, and let's not forget her deep seeded yet confusing feelings for Reed. Reed was another thing on her long list of distractions used to keep herself from dealing with her life. The story picks up right from when she leaves Reed high and dry to head back home in attempt do deal with all the chaotic events that have left her emotions in a jumbled mess. Unfortunately, Kate can't help stop her mind from drifting to Reed and all the memories of what they shared. However much she wants to beg Reed to have her back, she didn't ask him to wait for her...and she has trouble finding a way to apologize for what she did to him.

"I follow loosely behind taking in Reed's physique. It's staggering. I've yet to get a good look at his eyes. God, his eye, I'll get lost. I sigh knowing he can't hear me. What I wouldn't do to get lost again." -Kate

Reed gave a half-hearted attempt at forgetting Kate to no avail. He couldn't fight his desire to have her back in is life, so he made it his mission to be patient and find a way. Reed used what brought them together in the first place, tennis. They begin to play tennis together, with no conversation at all. Talk about tension building. They both wanted to say so much, but couldn't seem to find the right words. Eventually the comfort level between them begins to flourish to how it used to be, and Kate starts to let her guard down. Reed's patience was wearing thin, and one night after they were at a bar together, he dove in and made his move. Man was that one passion filled scene fueled by frustrating anticipation. He finally got her to talk to him though, which was a huge step in the right direction.

"Don't you get it, what I did to you, I used you Reed. I was selfish and greedy. I needed to get lost in something good, away from Kyle, my mom, and I used what you had to offer.  I took advantage of you in the worst way possible." -Kate

After Kate got it all out, the acknowledgement and understanding finally allowed them to figure out a way to be together. Reed helped Kate find the courage to express and face her feelings instead of running away from confrontation. This helped Kate with not only her feeling for Reed, but it also helped her begin to forgive her mom. There were still huge obstacles to overcome though...Kate still struggled with confronting her feelings, and Reed also fought with reigning in his emotions, so he wouldn't push Kate to run away from him again. Reed was so damn swoon worthy it was ridiculous. The steps he went to, whether they were huge ones or baby ones, helped evolve their relationship to such a deep level.

"Please baby, please just..." He pulls back and moves his hands to the side of my head to look in my eyes again. "Just don't push me out again. Let us figure this out. Please. I want you, Kate."

"I want to be there for you, be there with you. These last few months have been hell for me. You are all I have thought of and wanted."-Reed

Damnit...I won't run away Reed! Me...pick me! Sorry, got a little carried away there for a minute. Reed was just a perfect combination of raw, tough male, and a soft, deep, and passionate softie. That combination is sure to have your panties melting right off. Reed and Kate's attempt to find their footing in their journey to love was difficult in itself. Of course, that isn't the only thing they have to deal with. Kyle has been lurking in the shadows waiting for his perfect moment to pounce. His stalking goes beyond creeper status, and well into intense dangerous potential. Kate doesn't know how to  properly deal with the whole Kyle situation. Reed's ex also tries her hand at driving a wedge between the two love birds. Will Reed and Kate's already fragile relationship be strong enough to deal with all these outside forces trying to bring them down? How can they both deal with theses situations in the right way, when all roads lead them to such hazardous routes?

"Even though I'd love nothing more than to have her hands roam my body, making me forget. Her surrendering to my need to protect her is what I crave most." -Reed

I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in The Perfect Series. I liked that Reed and Kate getting back together wasn't easy or automatic in the beginning. The build up was done perfectly...so that when they did finally get back together, you didn't only feel relief and satisfaction, but you felt them become whole. Reed's unwavering dedication really helped build a strong connection between the two. I did get slightly irate with the ending, but the epilogue in Jessica's POV really made up for it. I anxiously await the third installment in this series. Great job Melissa...you sure know how to keep a girl desperate for more.

"Even I know there is nothing that could distract me from the fierce emotion of love I feel luring in and out of my entire being." -Kate
