Review:

Wowza...this book was jam packed with all the things I love in a romance novel...angst, intense connection between the characters, passion, and soul penetrating emotional depth. I have not read any other books by this author, but I heard really good things about The Hacker series, so when I got the opportunity to hop on this blog tour, I jumped right on it. Maya and Cameron's story was filled with so much emotionally raw intensity, that it launched the physical chemistry they shared  into a whole new level of hotness. I was captivated right from the start with the amazing and enticing prologue. I was more than ready to dive head first into this incredible journey between two lost souls who can only feel complete when they are together.

"That simple touch was our only connection, but it was a meaningful one, like a thread between our hearts that had always existed, even through distance." -Maya

Maya and Cameron's story began when Maya was in college and Cameron was recently enlisted in the military. Even back then, their connection was earth shatteringly intense. They both loved each other passionately and had dreams of a wonderful future together. During his visit after basic training, Cameron thrust their future into the present, and Maya was utterly shocked and unprepared for what Cameron was proposing. Love was not the reason for her withdrawal, but other dark demons from her past that didn't allow her to have her HEA. They were both left devastated by their break up, but were forced to move on. After five years of merely being passengers in their lives set on auto pilot, they unexpectedly reunite in NYC. Now they both live in the same city and are presented with a possible second chance.

"More and more my vision of maya, who she was in her soul, began to resolve with the memory. The brown-eyed, blond-haired angel I used to love had changed, her bright flame both darkened and intensified at once, as if she'd walked into a long, cold shadow on her path and had spent the past four years trying to outrun it." -Cam

The odds were definitely stacked against them. Despite their past history and present physical attraction, they both held deep unresolved resentment from what happened between them. If dealing with unresolved emotions was not enough, they also have present day real obstacles that are thrown at them left and right. Maya still struggles with her past demons that keep resurfacing right when she thinks she has finally buried them. She lives with a huge void within herself that she is continuously desperate to fill, even if it's in unhealthy ways. The way she tries to numb her pain and fill that void is by drinking, partying, and emotionless hook ups. Her situation reminds me of a quote from the show Californication.
"I mean isn't it normal to numb the pain? A doctor wouldn't do surgery without anesthesia?"
-Hank Moody
Maya has gotten so used to feeding the problem, that the solution has become neglected and seemingly unattainable.  Cameron's dedication to making it work this time around was unwavering despite all the continuous set backs.

"Everything he said, ripped open another wound, exposed some raw feeling that I'd buried long ago. But I clung to my anger. I don't want him to be sorry. I wanted him to be terrible and smug so I could go on hating him, hiding away in the safe place I'd always kept it." -Maya

They both continue to deal with the issues of trusting that this time would be different....having faith that their love was strong enough this time around. However, there are added outside forces that come to test their already fragile reconnection. Can they completely forgive and let go of the past to make it work this time? Are the piling obstacles too much for them to handle? Can Cam get Maya to finally let him in and share her past demons in order to conquer them once and for all? Well, I guess you will have to read and find out.

"I want to be with you, Maya, because we belong together. You may not believe it, but you're strong and you're beautiful, and we may fight like hell, but you're mine. And now I want you to fight for us, for the girl who used to dream with me, who made me believe we could do anything together. I've never know what the further held, but I've never been able to stop imaging you were the person I'd go into it with." -Cam

Swoon...well he has me convinced. I thoroughly enjoyed this book's story and characters. I truly appreciate the emotional angst in a story, even if at times I want to throw a hissy fit, it makes the payoff of the happy ending that much more gratifying. Meredith does a fantastic job and achieving the emotional attachment to the character's, while also delivering a consuming storyline. I am throwing the Hacker Series further up my TBR list for sure! I can't wait to see what comes next in this series and from this author in general. I would definitely recommend this book to my fellow readers out there.
