All she needed was a job…
The last thing twenty-four year old grad student Angie Roberts needs is to worry about her new boss’s father. After all, she’s never even seen him. He remains sequestered upstairs in a house that looks like it should be the main feature in an episode of Hoarders. She had no idea the house was such a dump when she took the job. But she’s concerned about the safety and health of the old man living under such horrid conditions.

What she got was a mystery…
Despite warnings not to venture upstairs, she wanders up to the second floor. What she sees is shocking. The man she finds is a gorgeous, sexy, middle-aged man-- and he's stepping out of the shower. But something is definitely not right. Why would this wealthy, handsome man live in a house in such disrepair while his nine-teen year old son resides in a lavish penthouse? Why does he hide away from society? Why does he come to her rescue and then run away?

What she discovered was heartbreaking…
Angie learns that forty-four year old Grayson Whitmore suffers from schizophrenia. Paranoid, he retreats into his own world.

What she ended up with was a treasure…
Angie is determined to get through to him. They form a friendship that blazes into an inconceivable love fired with erotic passion. Angie must now come to Grayson’s rescue because the wicked that has been perpetrated on him is unconscionable. First, though, she must gain the trust of a man whose mind does not allow for such a thing.

Review:

"I loved when he looked at me that way. It was something between awe and disbelief mingled with a tender reverence. It was as if his universe and all the answers were held in the stars of my eyes."

First off, let me just say that I was completely blown away by the emotional impact this story was able to deliver. I was completely captivated by these amazing characters and absolutely enthralling story. My heart was beating erratically out of my chest for the majority of this book. My house was a mess, because every spare moment I had, I went straight to my Kindle. I was an obsessed book junkie to the T. I am still reeling right now, as I look back at it to write this review. Grayson was able to both warm and break my heart with just one small smirk. I loved Angie as well; she was a strong willed, warm hearted, amazing female character. Her determination to get to know the mysterious enigma that was Grayson was so admirable, and pretty damn brave. Angie cared very little about his mental illness…she just wanted to get to know the incredible man that slowly began to show himself to her.

"He was so reserved, always holding back. My reclusive hero was an enigma. He did the most wonderful things for me, yet blocked every attempt I made to get close to him." -Angie

Angie was a hard working woman, who was attending grad school, working at the hospital as a nurse, and also working at her newly acquired job cleaning up a house that was in total disarray. She was hired by a slimy and cocky young rich kid who she hated from the get go. She believed that the mentally ill father she was told about that lived upstairs, was old and fragile. She had the wake up of a lifetime when she went innocently exploring to find the “old” mentally ill unknown father. This part had me a hot mess of mixed up emotions. I was gasping in pure shock, covering my eyes with embarrassment, and laughing with a bright flush on my face all at the same time. Well, let’s just say that Angie and Grayson didn’t start off on the best of terms.

"I knew that I'd felt a connection with him, knew that this man with his own brand of humor had somehow seeped into my skin, but who would've thought that this playful, exquisite, truly beautiful human being was hiding amid all this rubbish. It was like finding a perfectly polished diamond in a sea of gravel."

Despite their initial uncouth meeting, she couldn’t bring herself to stay away (loved that about her…you get’em girl). As time went by, Angie became more obvious about her needing his “help”, but even though he was on to her, he still went with it. You could see his walls beginning to crumble, and it was so heartwarming to read. With very little effort, Grayson swept right in and stole my heart and my knickers! He was just such a brilliant and enthralling character that you couldn’t help but fall in desperate love with. Oh, and did I mention that the sexual chemistry between them could reduce a nun to a puddle of hormonal goo?

"Unfathomable pleasure burned me with a blistering heat as he pounded into me. Our coupling was raw and hedonistic, and the pleasure was as sharp as a razor's edge."

Throughout their interactions, Grayson begins to question Angie’s motives which cause some quite intense reactions from both of them. They not only have to work through their fragile growing relationship, but there are other outside forces that try to cause problems as well. The amount of shit they had to go through just to be together was unbelievable, yet enlivening to the soul. Not many people could handle all of that, but Angie’s determination and dedication never wavered.

"It's me, Grayson. It's Angie. I'm on your side."

Angie and Grayson’s journey was  completely bewitching and so very inspirational. Though it isn’t your typical love, hearts, and rainbows kind of romance, it truly instills a deep sense of the true meaning of unconditional and absolute love. There was a raw vulnerability shown that was beautifully flawed and thought provoking. It made me think about so many different aspects of a typical and not so typical relationship, and that is what really good writing will and should do to you....make you think and question. I was a highlighting fool with this one, if you couldn't tell be all my quotes sprinkled throughout--and that's just a fraction of them. Bravo Lisa Eugene, for writing such an amazing story with characters that I will remember forever. You know you read a fantastic book, when you go to bed still thinking about the story and characters. I went through so many different emotions while reading this one…some of which I didn’t even know I had, and I loved every minute of it. It made me laugh, scream, and reach for that dreaded box of tissues. I will most certainly be lightly stalking this author; just to be sure I don’t miss any of her upcoming books (wink, wink). I would beyond a shadow of a doubt recommend this book to my fellow book junkies out there. Go out and read this book!

"Angie. My heart. My salvation. My Love." -Grayson

5 out of 5 Awe Inspiring, Deeply Enchanting, Unforgettable Stars!

Early Sunday morning, I crawled out of bed in search of Grayson. I discovered him upstairs in the room with the books. They were piled all around him as he scratched at something on the floor with an old shovel. The room was saturated with an early morning chill, so thick I could feel it seeping through my skin. I hugged my torso, scrubbing my palms up and down my arms. I approached him hesitantly and asked what he was doing. My heart was in my throat because I never knew what to expect with Grayson. He stopped and leaned against the handle, his cloudy gaze finding my face. He was fully dressed. He must have gotten dressed again after we’d made love earlier.

“Digging,” he acknowledged casually. “Digging a trap.”

I swallowed hard, emotion stacking like bricks in my chest. I shook my head, my mind grasping for purchase, trying to understand. “A trap for what, Grayson?”

“Danger. I have to be prepared. I have to protect us.”

I reached out a hand, trying to keep it steady. “You’re safe, Grayson.”

His gaze shifted to my proffered hand, but he didn’t move. He didn’t believe me. Fear and skepticism drew a roadmap of worry on his face. His jaw squared and he tightened his lips into a brittle line. I watched his body uncurl as he grabbed the shovel and silently started scraping at the floor again. That’s when I saw it. There was a large, jagged crater in the dusty wood that must have been covered up by the scattered books. It was directly over the small cracks I’d seen in the ceiling downstairs, the network of spider veins I’d noticed soon after starting here. I wondered how long he’d been working at this trap. I could already see exposed beams and fluffy insulation. If he kept this up, eventually he’d put a hole right through the wood floor.

“Go back to bed, Angie.”

“I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying with you, Grayson,” I said sternly, plopping myself down on the floor next to him.

He stopped again and stared at me, his blue eyes almost cobalt in the gray dawn. His hair was a loose mane framing his face, giving him an unruly look. “You’ll be tired. You haven’t gotten much sleep.”

I squeezed my eyes shut, hurting, thinking of the reason I’d been up most of the night. We’d held each other, made exquisite love, bathed in a temporary utopia where I could pretend he was okay.
But Grayson wasn’t okay, and as I spent more time with him, I realized the extent of his fractured thoughts. My Grayson was funny and brilliant. My Grayson was tender and passionate. My Grayson could melt my heart with the tiniest smile. But this man, too, was my Grayson, a man who was sometimes out of touch with reality, who lived in the distorted world concocted by his brain. It was a world of doubt, fear, and distrust.

Lisa Eugene began writing as a way to mentally escape from the hectic medical world where she has been a practicing nurse for over twenty years. After publishing her first novel, STRICTLY BUSINESS, she quickly learned that readers couldn't get enough of the world she created and now she lives out her wildest fantasies by writing steamy romantic suspense for her fan-favorite Washington Memorial Hospital series.

When she's not plotting her next dangerous, fast-paced, sexy adventure, you can find her juggling a full time job, playing soccer mom, or curled up reading a good romance.
